Obsushion
Last week, I lay awake in bed. It was 1:48 am, and something I craved so powerfully was keeping me up: sushi.
Yes, that’s right. I longed for the seaweed, raw fish, and rice combination that every middleclass white person longs for. But it wasn’t just desire—I needed it. I sent a quick text to my roommate Nick, who was separated from me by half a foot of drywall.
“I need sushi, and I need it...

Being Nosey
There’s a girl in one of my classes who is rather pretty. She has a set of sophisticated-looking eyes that imply business but could hint at something greater. And her hair looks like soft and feathery even carefully assembled in a ponytail.
She’s smart too, or at least that’s what I infer from her class discussions. She always takes notes, and she always watches the professor with...

Reflections on My Retainer
I.
I was given a menu of options for retainer customization. Zebra stripes, glittery, sport team icons. He told me I could submit a picture, too. “It’ll take a few weeks extra, but you can put any picture you want on it,” he said. I thought about bringing in a picture of Sophie. But what are the ethics of having a recreation of your dog in your mouth?
In the end, I ended up going with...

I think Tumblr’s gotten too viral for me.

She said, "Write more."
I’m thinking about starting up some alternative blogs—maybe Tumblr and maybe not—for my time in Philly. I was thinking one maybe along the lines of fake in a Diablo Cody-level of incredibleness. I gotta get famous sometime, ya know?
Food for Thought
Today, while making a baked potato at 12:00 AM, I realized that my favorite food may not be just the potato. To think—after years of the starchy snack being my be-all end-all to the “What’s your favorite food?” question. I love potatoes, but I especially love the finished product: all of the fixins and potato combined. Oil and friedness are needed for french fries; sour...

S'mores
We made a bonfire because it was night and something about fire is always pleasing. This night, marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers replaced our usual weekend debauchery. It was fun to spear those white puffs as if firelight made us malicious. I remember gently sliding the searing twig into the marshmallow’s belly. Surrendering, seas of white weakly gave inward to the glowing tip of...
Sushi
I got tuna and salmon sushi in the city for lunch with a friend. We were eating outside a store front on a little ledge due to the absence of benches. A man walked by me and asked in garbled English, “Is that sushi?” I told him, “Yeah,” and he asked if he could have one. Startled at his forwardness, I picked up a tuna roll and handed it to him. “No, no,” he...
Bathroom Talk
I think bathrooms show a lot about a person or his family’s personality. What kind of wallpaper a bathroom has, if it has reading material and what that is, overall ambience, scented candles, kinds of toilet paper and soap… all of it is a microcosm of an analysis of that bathroom’s owners’ personalities.
At Work
My brain itches. Gears turn with a dying mantra: logos, logos, logos. Wait, we needed to connotate healthcare? Oh, woe.
I'm Making My Website This Weekend!
I’m not sure if I am going to integrate Tumblr into it or not. I may switch over to Wordpress for functionality. We’ll see.

"Better School"
Sometimes I think it’s odd when people without question mash up schools as better than one another. Rankings are so arbitrary—it could be the better school for one, but it could be the worser school for another. Moreover, I feel like prestige of institutions and academics are more in a range… it gets to a point where schools aren’t distinguishable in these terms.
So why is...
Hmm
Lady Gaga has really started an absurdist/extravagance vibe in Hollywood. Cool.
Also, I need to think of a cool summer blogging idea… any thoughts?
I Think
Studying history is a little bit sad because it always ends in downfall and defeat.
Oh
And I also am going to be getting my own website soon. My tumblr will definitely be integrated in it. It’s going to be my summer project.
La Vita Nuova
A few days ago, I read this excellent fiction piece in the New Yorker. It is about an art teacher whose fiance leaves her, and she becomes a babysitter. Really an awesome piece—the style was so detached, yet moving at the same time—never dwelling. So interesting.
I’d like to be published there one day. How cool would that be?
Timshel
East of Eden, though it seemed long at some parts, is an incredible piece of literature. I just finished it. It hits all of the bases—it gets every sense. I was affected by it, in different ways than other works. Read it. Seriously. Everything: the Biblical concept of naming, the Cain and Abel dichotomy, the Fall symbolism, the aging, the living in a story—all of it spans the 600 pages...

Roots
The way Arabic works is that every word has a root of normally three letters. For example, س ف ر are the letters for the roots for words like “to visit,” “ambassador,” “passport.” These three letters together in that order have a theme of traveling.
Sometimes I think it would be cool if people were like that. Like, oh, you’re [name]? No wonder...
Begin…the rest is easy.

“I’m from the future,” she had told him, swiping at strawberry-blonde bangs. She grinned—like she always did when joking—and darted her eyes downward. She wore a silver sweater that day that went well with her handmade tinfoil helmet.

Myth
In a scene depicted in the Perhamon Altar, the giant Alkyoneos reaches for his mother, Ge (or Earth), as Athena battles him. As long as Alkyoneos has contact with his mother, he cannot be killed. I guess moms have always been like that—even in ancient Rome.

Experimental Fiction
For Creative Writing, our recent assignment was to make experimental fiction. It was actually pretty fun. And cool. I like the final product. It’s trippy and at the same time plays with symbols and language. And it’s post-apocalyptic so holla.
